TrainingSEO Training On Page SEO

On-Page SEO

On Page SEO could also be called On Website SEO as the factors we are interested in affect both web pages and web sites.

On Page SEO builds relevance in Google’s eyes through:

  • Creating page titles that match or include the keyword search phrase
  • Creating page content that is of a high quality and is correctly themed to keywords you are targeting for that page
  • Creating structured headings on the page using H1, H2 and H3 tags
  • Creating a website structure that has a clear structure with closely themed information sitting together in silos (categories)
  • Creating search engine friendly urls
  • Creating meta tags for each page that include your target keyword phrase for that page
  • Ensuring all images have proper alternative text versions
  • Ensuring all flash and non-spiderable elements have alternative text versions
  • Creating a robots.txt file to tell Google which pages it can and can’t visit or index
  • Creating themed internal links between content items
  • Ensuring you site performance is good and you aren’t suffering from a slow page loading
  • Optimising html and css
  • Creating 301 permanent redirects for content that no longer exists or has moved
  • Creating an xml sitemap

It is essential with on page SEO to understand the relationship between web sites and web pages.

To most website owners, they think about their websites as a whole rather than at the page level.  As an SEO expert I start at the page level.  Each page can rank in the search engines in its own right.  It is therefore important to create each piece of content with SEO in mind.  We will cover this further in the content creation module.
